SONGHAI CENTRE, BENIN
At its core, SonghaÏ is a developmental process that is in continuous evolution; it is a laboratory for Africa and the world, a prime mover for the creation of a better tomorrow.
In Benin, the Songhai model of green rural cities extends beyond the capital city of Porto Novo. To control the production in different agro-ecological zones, three other sites were created - Savalou (Centre) on 214 hectares, Parakou (North) on 250 hectares, and Kinwedji (South West) on 30 hectares. The Songhai model has also been exported. It is replicated in several other countries on the continent.
Songhaï has in place a vibrant organization that is both an incubation center for technological experimentation as well as the production of agricultural goods, industrial products, and other services. PHI is engaged with the Songhaï Centre in the shared vision of a robust agricultural economic sector for Africa.
