Maripha Empowerment Foundation - Nigeria Hub
Maripha Farms is a 15 acre demonstration farm for integrated, organic agriculture situated in Kwara State, Nigeria. Kwara State lies between the arid north and the moist south in West Africa’s Guinea Savannah region. With an estimated population of 3.2 million, it represents one of the least populous states but the 9th largest land area in Nigeria. Maripha Farms hopes to be a change agent towards food sovereignty in Kwara State.
Agriculture is the main economic engine with cash crops of coffee, cotton, groundnut, cocoa, palm oil, and kola nut. It is in this fertile zone that Maripha Farms plans to ignite a radical change that redefines the narrative towards regional food security and poverty elimination.
Maripha Farms is cultivating rice, maize, millet, soya beans, groundnut, tomatoes, pepper, yam, sweet potatoes, cashew, palm, cassava. In the near future, we will be farming tilapia, chickens, goats, rabbits, and many more. We are experimenting with azola and black soldier fly larvae for feed production. Combined with Maripha Cuisine, we are able to source our own food from the farm to the table.
Regenerative Agriculture
Maripha Farms will replicate the Songhai Institute's model of integrated, regenerative, and sustainable agriculture where nothing is wasted, biodiversity is restored, and a new generation of youth will learn from themselves and become agents of change that will alter the trajectory; from increasing poverty to a robust economic and ecological future.
