Our Work

Objectives

  • Advocacy for the protection of widows’ rights and ensuring their safety, property rights, and social justice.

  • Promoting economic empowerment, shelter improvement, and community resilience.

  • Promoting improved livelihoods through sustainable agriculture to enhance food security.

  • Providing youth-friendly programs for vocational, entrepreneurial skills and talent development.

  • Addressing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), environmental conservation, disaster management, and climate change.

  • Advocating for the provision of healthcare and psychosocial support, particularly for mental health.

Challenges

  • Natural Disasters: Recent heavy rains and floods devastated homes, farms, and infrastructure, leaving many families homeless and without livelihoods.

  • High poverty rates and limited access to economic opportunities hinder community development.

  • Lack of sustainable agricultural practices.

  • Limited access to education and vocational training opportunities for youth and women because of poverty.

  • Widows and orphans often face social exclusion and lack of support.

Opportunities

  • Strong community spirit and willingness to work together towards common goals.

  • Rich agricultural land offers potential for sustainable farming projects.

  • External Support and partnerships with local and international organizations to provide additional resources and expertise.

  • A large youth population eager to learn and contribute to community development.

Kamser Seka CBO employs a multifaceted approach to tackle these challenges and harness opportunities:

Housing and Infrastructure Project: Rebuilding homes destroyed by floods, ensuring they are
resilient and safe, and constructing community centers and sanitation facilities.

Sustainable Agriculture Initiative: So far, we have 50 widows taking part in this project. It has
benefitted them and their children by enabling them to provide for themselves. We aim to target
another 100 widows as well as youth in the future.

The Empower Her Table Banking Initiative: This project began in 2021 and is currently being
done by 100 widows divided in 3 groups. The Initiative focuses on training in business and
financial management skills. It is about empowering rural widows through the establishment of
table banking groups. Table banking involves pooling financial resources within a community
group enabling members to access small loans for income-generating activities, savings, and
emergency expenses. The primary aim is to enhance the economic empowerment and social
resilience of rural widows by providing them with access to financial services and opportunities
for collective decision-making and support.

Community Engagement and Advocacy: Promoting social inclusion and support networks for
widows and orphans and engaging in advocacy efforts to address gender-based violence and
other social issues.

Biogas Production: This project includes:

  • Generating renewable energy from agricultural waste to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

  • Implementing technology to convert organic waste into biogas, thus decreasing methane emissions from landfills.

  • Quantifying and reporting reductions in CO2 emissions because of biogas utilization.

  • Using biogas byproducts as organic fertilizer to promote eco-friendly farming methods.

  • Training local communities on biogas technology to enhance sustainable energy practices and reduce carbon footprints.
