APPROPRIATE HOUSING
Appropriate housing and solutions to improve housing infrastructure have a direct bearing on family health and livelihoods. Once water and sanitation issues are addressed, PHI works with families to improve the home construction. Dust from dirt floors, for example, contribute to family respiratory illnesses.
Design solutions include: use of rammed earth, brick making, thin-shelled concrete, alternative construction materials, green energy sources, and considerations of thermal mass and natural ventilation for improved air flow.
