Clean Water Initiative
With the support of Running Water International and Rotary International, Isaac Soita of PHI-Kenya has been active for over a decade bringing clean water and sanitation solutions to schools and homes in Meru County and Nakuru County. Isaac is a trained professional in clean water and sanitation and an attendee at several WASH Conferences.
The 2019 WASH joint monitoring program report by The World Health Organization and UNICEF found that only 59% of Kenyans have access to basic water services and only 29% have access to sanitary services. Clean water, basic toilets and good hygiene practices are essential for the survival of communities and create an insurmountable wall for children to escape to a better future.

PHI has a range of initiatives to address this critical issue. In rural Nakuru Kenya we have used a modified table banking model to finance rainwater harvesting solutions where we capture rainwater at the home, thereby eliminating the need to walk long distances and stand in forever queues. Chamas (informal groups) are formed where their savings are pooled and the funds are leveraged to achieve economic freedom for the members. Stronger together, poor women are able to see a hope for their precious labor manifest in their livelihooods and the lives of their children.
