Healthy farm food - Maripha.jfif

Chakula Bora Speaker Series

It has been said, ‘the pharmacy of the future is the kitchen.’ Healthy food is nature created. Healthy Food strengthens the human immune system and is the first line of attack against disease. The Chakula Bora (Swahili for “healthy food”) Speaker Series is an initiative of Passion of Hope International to create a forum for policy discussions on Triple P based solutions (People+Planet = Productivity) for food security and food sovereignty in Africa. We seek dialogue on these issues with farmers, agricultural students, agricultural extensionists, researchers, economists, ecologists, pastoralists, value addition players, policy influencers, and concerned global citizens. Topics range from soil health to agriculture, apiculture, aquaculture, livestock, value addition, and food as medicine. We welcome you!

Healthy food begins with healthy soil. Input intensive agriculture has been proven to be an unsustainable pathway to food security, resulting in dramatically reduced soil and ecological biodiversity. Globally, toxic agricultural practices have played a major role in constricting rural economic development and reducing food and nutrition security for these communities. This is particularly true in Sub-Saharan Africa. Rebuilding organic matter in the soil and restoring ecosystem biodiversity gives crops and livestock a better chance of thriving. Inorganic pesticides kill the life of the soil, creating a foolish justification for inorganic fertilizer to then restore it. Life alone can breathe life! Passion of Hope International believes that all humanity has a right to healthy and culturally appropriate food, produced through ecologically sustainable methods.

We all have a right to define and influence our food and agricultural systems. This is the principle behind the regenerative agriculture movement. When farmers and food systems implement agro-ecological practices, they experience higher food quality and thereby, higher market value. Agro-ecological approaches to farming also improve community health and well-being.  It is an immediate boost to declining rural economies, creating economic and environmental vibrancy for the present, while extending its benefits well into future generations. The Chakula Bora Speaker Series features a noted speaker and the opportunity for open dialogue.
